Eddie Diaz, LMSW, is an experienced educational leader and School Social Worker who has dedicated his career to supporting students, families, and educators. With a background in social work and educational leadership, Eddie brings a unique perspective to his work and believes that students are most successful when they are supported academically, socially, and emotionally.
Eddie earned his Bachelor of Science in Human Services from Springfield College, graduating Summa Cum Laude. He went on to earn his Master of Social Work from Springfield College, graduating Magna Cum Laude, and later completed a 6-Year degree in Educational Leadership at Central Connecticut State University, where he earned a 3.9 GPA.
Since 2016, Eddie has served with Hartford Public Schools as a School Social Worker and Administrator Designee. In this role, he works closely with students, families, teachers, and school administrators to create supportive environments where students can learn and grow. His work includes providing counseling and social skills support, helping students manage behavioral and emotional challenges, and working with families to connect them with appropriate resources.
Eddie has also taken on a strong leadership role within his school community. He has supported the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, participated in school improvement planning, and helped develop behavioral and academic interventions for students. He also serves as a 504 School Coordinator and Title IX Coordinator and has experience supporting special education teams and facilitating Planning and Placement Team meetings.
A strong believer in collaboration, Eddie works closely with teachers and other school staff to develop strategies that meet the individual needs of students. He provides professional learning for educators, supports new and developing staff, and has supervised social work interns from both the University of Connecticut and the University of Saint Joseph. He also provides instructional feedback and works with school teams to strengthen programs and improve student outcomes.
Eddie has a particular interest in social-emotional learning, trauma-informed practices, restorative approaches, and creating positive school environments. He has helped bring mindfulness and social skills instruction into the classroom and believes that students need to feel safe, understood, and connected before they can truly thrive.
Before joining Hartford Public Schools, Eddie worked at Connecticut Children's Medical Center as a Community Care Coordinator and Social Worker. He also spent several years working in the hospital's Rehabilitation Department. These experiences strengthened his ability to work with children and families while navigating complex needs and collaborating with professionals across different fields.
Eddie's dedication to education has been recognized through his selection as Teacher of the Year for the 2022–2023 school year. He is also a member of the Phi Alpha Nu Tau American Honor Society and holds Connecticut certifications in Educational Leadership and School Social Work.
At the heart of Eddie's work is his belief that every student has the ability to succeed when given the right support and encouragement. Whether he is working directly with a student, supporting a family, mentoring an educator, or helping lead a school initiative, Eddie approaches his work with compassion, consistency, and a commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for students and the people who support them.
